Faculty Engagement Strategies in Online Education
Round table discussion

Presenters
Jonathan A. Agresta
Maer Dos Santos
William Wagner

Description:
According to research, online higher education enrollment has outpaced overall higher education enrollment 5:1 over the last decade.  Because of this, faculty are forced to transition traditional onsite courses into an online environment with very little training, thus causing lower engagement than traditional courses.  In this round table discussion, educators from across the region will discuss the various techniques used to increase the level of engagement and retention in online courses with an emphasis on available technology.  Ideas will be introduced from outside institutions, as well as introducing third-party technologies that can be incorporated both in-and-out of the online learning environment.

Description:
On Thursday November 6th 2014 Professors Agresta, Dos Santos, and Wagner presented Real-Time Student Engagement Via The Web at the annual Northeast E-Learning Consortium Conference at Villanova University. The Professors explored various engagement strategies and tactics for teaching online, hybrid, and blended courses using real-time web-based communication tools, specifically Adobe Connect. The presentation was very well received and attended by faculty, staff, and administrators from all over the region, even some from Canada, technically making it an international event. The Professors look forward to bringing this topic, and others gleaned from the conference back home to the DeVry University Philadelphia Metro in the hopes of continuous improvement of pedagogy via technological advances.
